Dillon Jepsen was born on November 15th, 1992, in Florida, United States. After graduating high school, the following year a few months after turning 19 years old, he had an episode of psychosis consequent of then developed Schizoaffective disorder. He spent the duration of the whole year of 2012 experiencing episodes of the disorder. The year was transformative to his identity as he lived knowingly in a distinct perception of reality set aside from the general normality. He received a formal diagnosis in January 2013 and began medication to treat the disorder. He reenrolled into a local community college and continued his education. In 2014, when stopping his medication he as consequence began to have episodes of his mental disorder. Much of his memory from 2012 resurfaced, again he was looking at the same observations but seemingly having greater perspective amid the recollection, it was at this point he shifted agnostic in his spiritual worldview.
Upon completing the associate’s degree at community college, he transferred to Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Dillon pursued a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in International Affairs. In the fall of his senior year he began writing A State of Mind after realizing his talent for writing creative expression, and the calling to share his perspective and understanding with the world. Early into spring of his final semester, he shortly had episodes of his mental disorder and recovered. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Dillon worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA for the one year period at a nonprofit organization. It was during this time in 2018 he completed A State of Mind and published it.
In the year following, 2019, at the end of spring Dillon had another period of episodes from Schizoaffective disorder which occurred for a couple months. These experiences confirmed his thoughts that the periods he has had episodes, each occurrence became much more intense and difficult. At the end of summer 2019, he became medicated and decided to pursue his career aspiration of becoming a funeral director, a career he had great interest in at the end of high school. He also swore to himself to never go off of medication for his mental disorder again.
In 2020 he started schooling to obtain the degree needed for the career he sought. In the next year of 2021, he spent much time writing A State of Nature at his apartment and was working at a funeral home in Orlando. He returned to his hometown once completing the degree and began the internship necessary to be licensed. It was this moment of his life in which he was becoming disabled by symptoms of Narcolepsy. He had been unaware of the cause of the excessive daytime sleepiness he struggled with his whole life, but at this age of 28, it became much more severe as it does later in life. Thankfully, a coworker mentioned to him the sleep disorder as an explanation for his symptoms and Dillon sought diagnosis and treatment. Narcolepsy greatly impacted his life for these next two years, while under the care of a sleep doctor he was able to receive the medication necessary to continue to manage a normal life.
In spring of 2022, he published the second book, A State of Nature. The book was written much more personal in regard to his personal thoughts when compared to the material of the first book. Since this time, Dillon has been working as a licensed funeral director and embalmer helping families during their time of great loss. He pursues acting and producing techno music, and is presently authoring the third and final book A State of Light.
